Shell stations in Indonesia use ABB Terra 54 chargers

Oil giant Shell is installing EV chargers at its gas stations around the world. Three Shell stations in the Indonesian cities of Pluit, Antasari and Jagorawi will soon offer public charging using ABB’s Terra 54 DC fast chargers. Customers can charge free for 30 minutes if they buy a pastry and a cup of coffee.

The ABB Terra 54 offers a power level of up to 50 kW, which can top up a battery pack from zero to 80 percent in under 30 minutes. It is certified to perform optimally within the environment of a gas station.

Through ABB Ability connected services, the company’s portfolio of digital solutions, chargers are connected to back offices, payment platforms and/or smart grid systems. Charger status monitoring, remote diagnostics and over-the-air software updates help to minimize downtime.

Indonesia registers annual car sales of about one million units. The government aims for EVs to make up at least 20 percent of vehicle sales by 2025, and also has high hopes of exploiting its abundant nickel reserves for manufacturing lithium-ion batteries.

“Indonesia is starting the journey of electrifying its large vehicle fleet,” said Jorge Aguinaga, Head of ABB’s Electrification business in Indonesia. “Multiple stakeholders are working together to make this vision a reality, and ABB is pleased to be part of this effort.”
