Sakuu develops the first battery in its new solid-state product line

Additive manufacturing specialist Sakuu has developed a lithium metal battery that achieved an energy density of 800 Wh/l in recent testing. The company says its battery achieves an energy density of 500-700 Wh/l, or greater. It demonstrates an energy retention rate of 97% after 200 cycles, and Sakuu expects it to reach an 80% retention rate after 800 cycles.

The battery is the first-generation solid-state battery (SSB) in a product line planned by the company. Next up for Sakuu is a 3D-printed SSB with energy density higher than 1,200 Wh/l. The company expects to begin delivering sample cells of the second generation in early 2023.

“The arrival of a safe, sustainable, and high-performance SSB, manufactured with a totally novel 3D printing method, can solve critical supply chain and safety issues while moving beyond limitations of today’s lithium-ion batteries,” said founder and CEO of Sakuu Robert Bagheri.
