Carmaker Renault and equipment manufacturer Valeo in France are collaborating to create a new electric motor generation.
E7A, the third generation of this motor, is in the prototype stage and will debut in 2027. Renault is contributing the rotor and Valeo the stator, and both companies are providing technology development and production expertise. Renault plans to supply an all-in-one architecture for the new E7A motor using a wound rotor instead of permanent magnets and contains no rare earths. The system will use 800 V instead of 400 V, and will supply up to 200 kW of power. The E7A motor is produced using Valeo’s hairpin technology to assemble copper wires.
“At this stage, the engine is still under development. There are other stages to go through before it can reach serial life. The mass production of this new-generation engine will start at Renault’s Cléon factory at the end of 2027,” the company said.
