Marelli to supply BMS to a major EV-maker

Marelli will supply its Battery Management System (BMS) to an unnamed “major global carmaker” for its future EVs. Marelli will provide both BMS hardware and software for segment A, B, and C fully electric vehicles. The start of production is planned for 2026.

The BMS will be based on a distributed architecture, which allows the wiring harness to be reduced in size. The system incorporates all the battery cell-related hardware on a Cell Module Controller (CMC), which is placed directly on the cell module that is being monitored. This alleviates the need for much of the cabling—only a few sensor wires and communication wires between adjacent CMC modules are required. Consequently, each CMC is more self-contained than previous designs, and handles measurements and communications as required.

“We are glad of this assignment, particularly as this is for a technology which has a key role for energy management in electric vehicles,” says Marelli’s Electric Powertrain Division President, Hannes Prenn. “This further reinforces our collaboration with global carmakers and recognizes the consolidated experience achieved by Marelli over the years in the development of BMS with different architectures, to fit the specific needs of our customers and co-create with them the vehicles of tomorrow.”
