Pride Group Enterprises, a North American logistics operator, has ordered 250 heavy-duty electric trucks from Daimler Truck’s Freightliner brand. The order includes 200 eCascadia and 50 eM2s trucks. Deliveries are to begin in mid-2023.
Pride Group Enterprises will offer the new e-trucks for short- and long-term rental through TPine Truck Rental in both the US and Canada. Customers also have the option of renting the truck together with an EV-trained driver.
Pride plans to completely electrify its fleet by 2024.
The eCascadia boasts a gross vehicle weight of 40 tons, has an electric axle drive developed by Daimler subsidiary Detroit ePowertrain, and is available in both single- and dual-motor configurations. Customers can choose from three battery pack options: 194 kWh, 291 kWh and now 440 kWh, for a maximum range of 370 km. Freightliner says DC fast charging time is about 120 minutes for the largest pack.
Production of the eCascadia line is to start later this year at the company’s factory in Portland, Oregon. The eM2 is scheduled to start rolling off the lines next year. The company has had eCascadia test vehicles in real-world operations with customers since August 2019. Freightliner EV clients include Walmart and food delivery company Sysco.
Pride Group also tested the Daimler e-trucks before confirming its order. President Sam Johal says that he is “very confident to bring these trucks into our lineup,” and added, “With the improved range of 230 miles, these trucks will be a great asset. These units easily manage 10-14-hour trips—a regular driving day.”
