Iowa schools score $11 million in federal funding for electric school buses

In a first round of funding, the federal Clean School Bus Program has awarded 15 Iowa school districts $11.5 million to replace 32 existing school buses with electric models. The program provides $5 billion over the next five years to replace existing school buses with clean ones.

“The Clean School Bus Program saves Iowa school districts millions of dollars,” said Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand. He is encouraging more Iowa school districts to apply for the second round of funding, which will provide an estimated $400 million in competitive grants.
