How to improve the EV charging landscape

One key to empowering the all-electric society is through e-mobility. By 2040, studies suggest an estimated 65 percent of new car sales will be electric and 33 percent of the global car fleet will be electric.

When it comes to charging stations, the components and output vary by region, location and use case. The design and output of the charging stations also depend on where and how they are used.

The Edison Electric Institute and the Institute for Electric Innovation estimate that by 2030, 78 percent of electric vehicle charging ports will be home-based, 13 percent will be installed at workplaces and 8 percent will be utilized in public areas.

Electric vehicle inlets will be determined by vehicle location and application. From a DC perspective, CCS Type 1 inlets will have either 125, 200 or 250 amps. AC lines are optional—some fleet vehicles may only charge with DC and don’t need AC lines. The inlets have the capability to charge at 500 amps on a temporary basis or up to 250 amps on a continuous basis.
