Daimler Truck North America starts production of Freightliner eM2

Germany-headquartered Daimler Truck has begun production of its electric Freightliner eM2 at the Portland, Oregon, manufacturing facility of its subsidiary Daimler Truck North America.

The medium-duty truck, designed for pickup and delivery applications, is the tenth Daimler Truck electric model in production worldwide. The first Freightliner eM2s will be delivered in the US to Ferguson, Hogan Truck Leasing, Penske Truck Leasing, Pitt Ohio, Ryder System, TITAN Freight Systems and Velocity Truck Rental & Leasing, and in Canada to Brossard Leasing and Day & Ross.

The eM2’s design is built on the Freightliner M2 106 Plus platform and features a proprietary Detroit ePowertrain. It places the motors and two-speed transmission on the drive axles for minimized energy consumption. Daimler says the Class 6 single-motor model provides up to 190 continuous horsepower, a 194 kWh battery pack and a range of up to 180 miles. The Class 7 dual-motor variant offers up to 255 continuous horsepower, a 291 kWh battery and a range of up to 250 miles.

“The eM2 is further enhanced by Detroit Connect, a state-of-the-art connected vehicle solution that facilitates real-time monitoring of battery health, charging status, and energy usage. This connectivity enables efficient route planning, energy optimization, and post-trip data analysis to improve overall energy efficiency,” Daimler said.
