Daimler and Gehring partner to develop motors commercial EVs

Daimler Truck and precision machining company Gehring Technologies have signed a strategic partnership agreement to work together on process development for—and prototype construction of—electric motors for commercial vehicles, to set up R&D facilities, and to open a joint technical center at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Gaggenau, Germany.

Daimler Truck says it will open InnoLabs for R&D at the German plants in Gaggenau and Kassel. A joint technical center at the Gaggenau plant will produce prototype electric motors, and be supplied with equipment by Gehring.

“As part of the future target pictures of our German Powersystems sites, the InnoLabs play an important role: analyzing the powertrains of the future in terms of their commercial vehicle specific application as well as testing innovative production methods and processes,” says Head of Global Powersystems Operation at Daimler Truck Yaris Pürsün.

“For a long time, we have experienced that coordinated development of products and manufacturing processes at an early stage leads to high-performance production systems,” says Gehring Group CEO Bernd Nagel. “We are therefore all the more pleased to be able to work together with Daimler Truck to deepen our hairpin technologies specifically for the electric powertrain of trucks and buses.”
