Making EVs cool

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is an all-electric version of one of the world’s most iconic motor vehicles. For generations, people have swooned over the big burly muscle power of the Ford Mustang. It’s seen as one of the most sought-after cars out there – certainly one that turns heads!

With the introduction of an electric version, we could see a dramatic change in the EV industry. Is the Ford Mustang Mach-E (and other cars like this) the best thing to happen since the EV boom began? Many experts think it is, and we’ll explain why.

Making EVs Cool

There’s a lot to love about EVs, but one thing that holds them back is the perception of a lack of “coolness.” People still associate EVs with earlier electric vehicles and hybrids of yesteryear. They’re not seen as “cool” cars that turn heads…until now.

As shown on the Hoffman Ford website, a 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E has over 260hp, all-wheel drive, big 18-inch wheels and many other features. For all intents and purposes, it’s a very cool car. The whole design is built around the classic muscle car of the same name, giving it an almost intimidating look. It’s a vehicle you can’t help but look at when you see it driving by.

People want the Mustang Mach-E because it looks awesome and performs well, not because it’s an EV. This targets a market the EV industry has been trying to hit for some time. Most EV owners are eco-conscious individuals who care about the planet and want to drive an electric car. But, there’s still a considerable sub-section of the auto industry market that doesn’t care. They want big, powerful-looking cars that go fast and feel good to drive. Now, there’s a cool car that fits this description, but also happens to be all-electric.

Turning Iconic Cars into EVs

The electric Mustang isn’t the first of its kind. Aston Martin, Jeep, BMW and plenty of other brands have shown “cool” EVs. It’s a growing trend, yet one thing about the Mustang stands out.

A historic nameplate moves into the 21st century

It takes an iconic car and makes it electric. Now, if you want to drive around in a Mustang, you can do so without worrying about its terrible gas-guzzling, low-mpg engine. This highlights a huge opportunity for other manufacturers in the auto industry. If we want electric vehicles to be adopted even more frequently than they are already, we should zero in on this concept.

Take cool cars like a Ferrari F430 or Porsche 911 and reinvent them. Release new versions with electric engines that look and feel similar. This is a great direction for the industry to go if it wants to capture a different part of the market that currently seems adverse to EVs.

Is the Ford Mustang Mach-E the best electric car you’ll ever see? No, but it’s definitely one of the most important. It could signal a shift in attitude towards electric cars, which is good news for the industry. Hopefully, we see more manufacturers release similar iconic vehicles with all-electric engines in the future.
