Sailing Eco Yachts, The Sunreef Yachts Eco sailing range of catamarans offers a holistic approach to green yachting with endless possibilities for customization. Harnessing energy from the elements using the latest innovative technologies, the shipyard’s eco-friendly sail yachts provide a truly sustainable cruising experience.

Sunreef Yachts has provided an update on progress with its Eco sustainable electric catamaran line, saying that its Sunreef 80 Eco is under construction and set to premier this year.

Claiming the offering as “the world’s most advanced sustainable luxury catamaran”, Sunreef says the all-electric Sunreef 80 Eco is a custom sail yacht intended for long offshore navigation. Promising “total silence”, it says the craft blends “ultramodern green tech and supreme levels of comfort”.

According to Sunreef, a solar skin system consisting of “the world’s lightest solar cells” is being engineered and produced in-house and will be fully integrated with the hull sides, superstructure, bimini and carbon mast of the Sunreef 80 Eco. It says the photovoltaic system will cover a total surface of 150m² and will deliver up to 34 kWp.

Propulsion will be provided by twin 180kW electric engines. Sunreef adds that, while under sail, the Sunreef 80 Eco electric catamaran will recover energy from rotation of the yacht’s two propellers using an advanced hydro generation system. It says the system will be able to generate over 15 kWh while sailing above 7 knots, and that the energy obtained will be used to power both the propulsion and house appliances.

Sustainable Boat News shared that in the company announcement,

Francis Lapp, Sunreef Yachts Founder, and President, comments:

“The Sunreef 80 Eco is all about responsible sailing and relying on renewable energy. We are now pairing the industry’s most innovative solar power system with hydro generation. On top of that, the yacht will be able to save massive amounts of energy thanks to an air conditioning system available exclusively on Sunreef Yachts catamarans.”
