Serbia’s capital, Belgrade, has announced plans to invest some 5.2 billion euros in measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality. Under the city’s Green City Action Plan and the related Action Plan for Sustainable Energy and Climate, the funds will be used to increase the efficiency of heating systems and to boost the use of renewable energy, including the establishment of a 111 MW wind farm.
Some 1.2 billion euros are earmarked for the transportation sector. The city aims to convert 40% of its buses and 80% of its taxis to electric drive in the coming years. The municipal vehicle fleet is to be completely electrified by 2030. By this date, the city also envisions that 80% of commercial vehicles and 20% of private cars will be EVs.
By 2030, Belgrade plans to invest 950 million euros in the purchase of electric buses, and has budgeted 6.5 million to buy 1,000 e-bikes, which will be integrated into the public transport system with 150 rental locations. The plan also calls for 493 km of new pedestrian and bike paths.
